Class Experience
Spelling can be difficult because there are many rules to the English language. Practicing those skills keep words fresh in our minds. Why not play an Easter-themed game to see how many words within words you can find in a minute? Can you test your mental speed and find more than your teammates in time? Then continue the competition with a Spelling Bee with all words associated with Easter and Spring and maybe a few more words thrown in. Everyone gets a printable certificate for...
-Students will test their abilities to think quickly finding smaller words within larger words by competing against time and classmates. -Students will test their phonics capability by participating in a casual Easter-related Spelling Bee. -Students will increase hand dexterity by learning how to manipulate pipe-cleaners creating a bunny pencil topper that is three-dimensional. -Bonus- They will learn how to use a computer application such as CANVA to spark their imagination and create an original image.
3 files available upon enrollment-Sheet of paper and a pencil for the 1st spelling game. (The pencil can also double for our pencil topper pencil) -Pipe cleaners- 2 contrasting colors (so a darker one for the bunny head, outside of ears, nose, and coiled part around the pencil, while the lighter color is for the inside of the ears, and snout.) Darker color- 5 12-inch pipe cleaners Lighter color- 1 pipe cleaner -1 pair of googly eyes (not the smallest but still small- not too big. roughly between ¼” and ½” -Scissors (parental guidance) -Glue- Hot glue if possible (parental guidance) Tacky glue or white glue can be sued in addition to some tape until it dries. guidance) (also get the attached rules and read them) -bring Easter printouts and crayons or colored pencils in case. 1 hour per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Parental Guidance- For the bunnies to stay together, some sort of glue is needed. Many of are comfortable with your children using hot glue. It works the best but is hot so be aware and be close by if you decide they can use it. Parents are also welcome to step in briefly to help students use hot glue. You can use tacky glue or white glue, but you may need some tape to place over it to hold on until the glue dries. Scissors will need to be used as well. The Canva program will be used by me for them to make their picture if we get to do that, but it's approved for teaching purposes anyway.
