This course covers the WEATHER unit, which is typically taught to eighth graders under Earth Systems Science. This class is taught in English.
The learner will differentiate between basic and severe weather conditions. The learner will develop a plan for personal safety and the safety of others for severe weather conditions. The learner will be able to make observations about weather conditions. The learner will be able to gather data during various weather conditions. The learner will compare historical weather data to current for a specified location and date. The learner will use models to develop a weather prediction for a specified location. Meets NSES MS-ESS2-5.
I have a Masters of Arts in Teaching and a Bachelors of Science in Earth Science from Western Oregon University. I was previously licensed by the State of Oregon to teach health and science in middle and high school. I have homeschooled my own children for nearly 12 years, and have been teaching online for the past 3 years.
Homework Offered
Assignments should be completed individually. Expect the learner to spend 1-2hrs each week on outside class work. Final Presentation - Learners should prepare to present their project to the class during the last class meeting.1 - 2 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Learners will self-correct homework. A scoring rubric will be available for the final presentation. Optional Certificate of Completion - Please let the teacher know you would like a Completion Certificate at the start of the course. The learner should turn in all assignments under the Teacher Tab after we correct them in class.Grades Offered
Lecture note taking guide should be printed prior to class. Learners should keep this in their Science Journal (if they keep one) to refer back to. Learners should have general school supplies available.

National Science Education Standards and Colorado Department of Education State Science Standards are used as a guide for this course. Material from various middle school texts, as well as YouTube videos and government websites combine to complete this course.
