5 live meetings
3 hrs 45 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
In this engaging and hands-on unit study, elementary students will delve into the fascinating world of how the Earth's surface changes due to weathering, erosion, and natural disasters. Through interactive discussions and exciting hands-on projects, students will not only learn about these geophysical processes, but also develop a deep appreciation for our planet's dynamic nature. This class will meet once a week for 5 weeks. Learners will build models to explore and learn how weathering, erosion, hurricanes, earthquakes, tornadoes, and volcanoes are able to reshape the surface of the Earth. Through our investigations, we will answer question like: * What is weathering? * What is erosion? * How do hurricanes form and how powerful can they get? * Why do earthquakes occur and where? * Why do tornadoes form? * Why are only some mountains volcanoes? Exploring Earth's Transformations provides students with a well-rounded understanding of how the Earth's surface changes due to weathering, erosion, and natural disasters while keeping them engaged through interactive, fun, and hands-on projects. By the end of the 5-week program, students will not only have gained knowledge but also a deep appreciation for the dynamic and ever-changing nature of our planet.
Learning Goals
Students will learn how and why the surface of the Earth changes over time.
