In this one time EARTH DAY class, the learners will listen to a story called Thank You, Earth by April Pulley Sayre. The story will be read with fluency and expression with lots of opportunities for the learners to add to the story and to make text to self connections or even text to text connections. The learners will then create a We Love The Earth poster using writing and step by step directions to create the planet Earth complete with the water and land. The poster will be a project that should be hung on a wall for all to admire!

~Learners will use social skills to take turns adding to the Earth discussion.
~Learners will develop reading comprehension skills.

~Learners will use listening skills and follow close directions to draw a step by step Earth.

Hi! Welcome to my Outschool classroom.
My name is Betty Nilssen. 💕
I have a BS in Elementary Education with a minor in Spanish from UW-Milwaukee. I am a first grade teacher, but I have also taught second, third and fourth grade, full inclusive classrooms. My teaching license certifies me to teach grades 1~6. My passion for teaching reading while incorporating phonics, phonemic awareness, rhyming, comprehension, fluency, vocabulary, science, social studies, math, drawing and writing helps children strengthen their academic skills while they gain academic confidence and a love of learning. Teaching reading is my super power. I can support your young learner.
I have three adult daughters and two of them are teachers. My mom was also an educator.
There are so many books to read, words and sentences to write, math equations to solve and fiction and non fiction pictures to draw and label. Let's get started!
