What's included

I believe that art students should work at their own pace. Therefore, some students will finish during class time and some may continue working on their projects between classes.Class Experience
It's Earth Day! Students will create a one of a kind Earth Day poster in this art class, with lots of crossover into nature and science. Students will first be introduced to what Earth Day is, and we will have a discussion about what Earth Day means to them. Students will be shown an original artwork made by me that is the inspiration for their posters. This class will include discussion of the meaning of Earth Day, a live demonstration of art and poster design, and time for students to create their own posters. At the beginning of the class, I will go over the art materials with the students and greet each student. We will begin with a discussion of Earth Day. Each student will then pick animals from the land and the ocean that are special or meaningful to them. Then we will also pick out flowers, trees, insects and weather to include on the Earth Day Poster. I will demonstrate how to trace a round object onto their paper to make the outline of the earth. Once our earth is sketched, we will draw land and sea animals inside the circle. I will demonstrate how to add the weather details (rain, rainbow or clouds), flowers, trees, insects, birds and other icons all around the earth. Students will write a saying or expression that they would like to include on their posters. Once our sketch is complete, students may use an Ultra Fine Point Sharpie to make outlines, and students may choose to color their posters with colored pencils, watercolor paints or markers. Note that some students may need time outside of class to finish coloring. My teaching style is relaxed. Students can go at their own pace. I will encourage students to show me their artwork during the creative process so that I can give feedback that is both educational and enthusiastic. Learners will get to interact with me and with each other, while creating their own artwork and watching my demonstration. At the end of class, students can show their artwork to each other and to me. If students don't feel comfortable sharing, students may opt to post a photo of the finished project in the classroom. Students should feel comfortable with their art materials at home. However, no prior experience is necessary.

Hello! I am an Art Educator and Artist. I love teaching art to all ages, especially elementary school and middle school. My art classes include watercolor painting, acrylic painting, drawing, elementary art projects that work on skill building, and learning about art history through fun projects about artists - including Non-Western and Women artists.
I teach art from my heart and aim to build self esteem in my students through the arts. I challenge students to find their inner artist through creativity and self expression. I believe in the process of art, individual expression, creative thinking, and problem solving. Each art project is designed to develop technical skills, artistic interpretation, and unique artwork. We have lots of fun while making artwork and socializing is encouraged during my art classes.
My art background began as a child. I loved to learn how to paint or draw anything and everything. After receiving a BFA in Graphic Design, I became a children's textile designer in the fashion industry in NYC. While in New York, I attended fine arts classes at the Art Student's League and The New School. I moved to New York State's Hudson Valley, and am inspired daily by the landscapes and nature around me. I also am inspired by my pet cats, who may visit the classroom once in a while.
