In this ongoing early reading club, through chants, finger/hand play and games we will learn about upper and lowercase letters, letter sounds, sight words and phonics skills. We will use an ice cream handwriting sheet to practice tracing or writing the letters. For phonics skills, we will use a graphic organizer to practice breaking up the word and blending the sounds together. There will be a phonics spelling component. We will play games to practice the skills. This is great for homeschooling and after school, too! While we meet weekly, the topic is constantly changing. Depending on the specific letters for that day, I may ask the students to bring something to share with the class. For example, if the letter is T t I may ask students to bring their favorite toy or teddy bear. It doesn’t have to be a tangible object, it can be as simple as a picture.
