✨ What's coming up this week: ✨

🗓️Nov 18-22
Skill: Letter Mm (Letter Name, Sound, and Formation)

🥳 Welcome to our small reading group class, Early Reading Beginners, for kindergarten and first grade!

In this class, learners will be introduced to early reading skills using:
🎧 phonological awareness games
📖 high-quality decodable sentences & passages
📝 activity pages to practice the phonics skills

🗓️ Each week, we’ll have a different phonics skill that we’ll explore together.
We’ll have opportunities to read together and practice the skills we’re learning in fun, active ways.

🏫 Class size will be kept small to provide individualized instruction. Each student will have a chance to practice reading with the teacher's assistance.

📚 This class is perfect for learners in kindergarten or first grade. We will start by learning/reviewing letter sounds, and then start learning to blend letter sounds together to make CVC words. We'll eventually be able to start reading full sentences as well!

🗒️ Note: I will include a mixture of my own created content and some decodables and activities will be from resources I have purchased. The stories included will be on a kindergarten/first grade reading level.

Other Details

Learning Needs
This class is intentionally designed to support learners with unique learning needs. The way that I teach reading (structured literacy approach) is aligned with the Science of Reading principles which support students with Dyslexia.
Parental Guidance
Note: We may be using some sensory materials in this class, such as playdough, which may contain wheat and could cause an allergic reaction if ingested in those sensitive to wheat gluten or with Celiac disease. You are always welcome to substitute an alternative sensory material if needed.
Supply List
Students will need to bring basic school and art supplies to class for our learning activities and games, such as pens, pencils, crayons, markers, colored pencils, playdough, small manipulatives (like counting bears, counting cubes, or pom poms), clear page protector folders, and extra paper. A white board, dry erase markers, and eraser would also be helpful to have for writing practice. If you have magnetic letters, you can bring those too!
I will send enrolled students a PDF each week with all of the printables and other information you will need for our upcoming class.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi there! 😊

I'm Ms. Elizabeth, an early literacy and reading tutor for grades Pre-K through 2nd Grade. I also teach online preschool for ages 3-5 as well as art and reading/writing classes for ages 6-9.

My classes are fun, interactive, and highly engaging for young learners. I incorporate music, movement, stories, art, and hands-on learning activities for a holistic learning experience. I believe that a child-centric, play-based approach is best for young children as they learn.
I strive to create classes that spark my students' interests, engage with their curiosity, and inspire them to go even further in their learning. I love seeing my students get excited about reading, writing, creating, and exploring.

For my early reading tutoring classes, I follow the research-based science of reading principles, including teaching oral language, phonological awareness and phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, reading/language comprehension, and writing. I'm committed to helping your child learn the basic literacy skills they need to succeed in their reading journey. I use high-quality materials and individualize each tutoring lesson to fit your child's specific learning needs.

I've been teaching online for over 4 years. I began my teaching journey as an online ESL teacher, and then transitioned into teaching online preschool and early reading/writing classes.

I've been working with children for over 10 years as a babysitter, nanny, and tutor.

I have a Bachelor's degree in English/Creative Writing. Currently, I'm working on getting an associate's degree in early childhood care and education.

In addition to teaching, I also write fiction for young adults.

I love spending time at home with my husband and our two kitty babies, Kiki and Teddy. Once in a while, you may get to see a kitty in class too!
