Class experience

US Grade 1
Students will develop and strengthen their prediction skills based on picture clues.
Students will work to make connections to their lives and other texts.
Students will employ proper beginning capitalization and punctuation to construct a sentence.
Students will utilize oral communication skills to interact with the teacher and other learners.
I believe in sharing the joy of reading and love to help cultivate that in young readers. Reading is the foundation for all learning and exposing children to literature and providing positive reading experiences helps them succeed! I use my experience as a licensed PK -6 teacher, with a Master's in Reading, to develop and reinforce reading skills. I have worked both in the classroom and the library setting and reading is truly a passion of mine.

As an experienced teacher, I utilize a variety of literacy activities to help make a positive reading experience. I love to incorporate songs, stuffed animals, or other tactics to help your learner enjoy their reading time. Your child will be drawn into these wonderful stories that share great lessons about kindness, friendship, and other kid friendly topics! I definitely have an animated and enthusiastic reading style to make the story engaging, upbeat, and a lot of fun!

As a mom of four little ones, I work hard to make sure lessons are age appropriate and incorporate different learning styles. I work to provide high quality instruction and meet each learner where they are to help them feel confident!

paper (or notebook)
Optional: coloring supplies

Any handouts needed for the class will be provided by the teacher 24 hours before the class. Families may print the handout or the learner can use paper to participate in the activity. The books used in this reading class will be shared with the class; however, if your learner as their own copy, feel free to bring it along!
As a parent of young children and a veteran teacher/librarian, I always encourage parents to preview the books we will read during our class. Each family is different and it is important evaluate the text to see if it is appropriate for your learner.
