In this fun and interactive class with teacher Mrs. Cutri, we will sing, rhyme, segment and blend sounds to read, and draw our way to better reading literacy! My name is Martha Cutri and I am so excited to be an online teacher with S-E-G! I have a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from SUNY Geneseo, a Master’s in Reading from Nazareth College, and am currently a kindergarten teacher in Western New York. I have been a teacher for 27 years ranging from young kindergarten to first grade. Most of my career has been teaching kindergarten. I love the enthusiasm, natural wonder and energy of young learners! When I'm not teaching, I enjoy fitness, cooking healthy meals, and golfing. I look forward to working with your child! Students should have complete knowledge of their alphabet and some letter sounds. This class is not for a child still learning their alphabet. This class is geared toward early kindergarten to kindergarten. The songs, rhyming, drawing, and letter and sound manipulation help to increase neural plasticity and cement information. In this active class, we will work on phonics, which is the relationship between letters and sounds. We will work toward reading successfully using phonological awareness and words they know automatically...sight words. We will work on sentence segmentation and blending, and use rhyming to make it engaging! Come join me for this active hour of fun and literacy! Cameras must be on for the entire class. All learners must be enrolled students; if two learners are sharing a device, both learners must be enrolled per Outschool policies. Please see supply list!
Learning Goals
Students will improve their understanding of the sounds of language by listening, manipulating and playing with letter sounds. Students will recognize and produce words that rhyme, apply knowledge of letter sounds, segment and blend syllables, words and sentences. Active participation will increase their retention of knowledge.

Supply List
1) Paper and pencil, or whiteboard and dry erase markers 2) A set of letters to be ready to go; magnetic, foam, plastic, or letter tiles, whatever you have! If you don't have the entire alphabet as a set, I will be uploading a printable option of which all letters must be cut out prior to the beginning of class. You will need a printer for the printables, if you are using those.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
