What is a mammal? The class will teach the requirements for an animal to be considered a mammal. Is it warm-blooded? Does it have live young? hair or fur? feed its babies milk? The class will watch videos of animals and life on my farm as we talk about the cows, goats, dogs, cats, horses, and maybe a few pigs. I will show pictures and talk about the animals. I love to have interaction and play games. I incorporate lots of review to ensure the children are retaining the information. The class will have coloring pages and worksheets. The learners need no prior experience or knowledge but maybe they can bring a picture of a mammal. If they have a pet that is a mammal a picture of the pet would be fantastic.
Learning Goals
The main learning objective is to be able to view an animal and determine if it is a mammal by asking does it have fur or hair? Is it warm-blooded? Did this animal have a live birth or was it from an egg? Did it drink milk as a baby? We will touch on the other animal types so the students know all the groups.
