Assessment
I will offer feedback after students perform an exercise and, if needed, provide suggestions to help the student master the concept. Mistakes are a part of learning a musical instrument! So students should not worry if they play the exercise or a piece correct on the first try. Together we will learn how to progress through new music and learn new musical concepts.

Class Experience

Intermediate Level
Please note: This class picks up where Early Intermediate Piano Level S leaves off.

Prospective students should be familiar with major and minor triads/scales and one-octave arpeggios.

Sight reading music is essential to this class so prospective students should be comfortable with reading music in the Level 4 Piano Adventures series (material from Level S).

In this class, students will explore the circle of 5ths, cadences and three minor scale forms. Students will use octaves, arpeggios and develop phrasing in pieces by Clementi and other composers.

Please note: We will be using Piano Adventures Lesson Book Level 5 (2nd Edition) for this class. It is a required text for the class.

Week One: Review Test, use a pencil. We'll go over answers together. Review an interval of a 7th. Begin Jazz Reflection.

Week Two: Continue to develop the phrasing in Jazz Reflection. Identify intervals of a 7th.

Week Three: Check in on Jazz Reflection. Begin work on an inversion study.

Week Four: Discuss cadences. Play through several examples in music. Start Sonatina main theme hands separately.

Week Five: Continue to develop Clementi Sonatina. Develop rhythm in difficult areas. Slowly begin building hands together.

Week Six: Continue to develop phrasing and expression in Clementi's Sonatina.

Week Seven: Check in on Clementi's Sonatina. Start an inversion study in the key of F major.

Week Eight: Examine a new piece in 12/8 time signature.
