What's included

6 live meetings
3 in-class hours
Homework
2-4 hours per week. I will offer feedback after students perform an exercise and, if needed, provide suggestions to help the student master the concept. Mistakes are a part of learning a musical instrument! So students should not worry if they play the exercise or a piece correct on the first try. Together we will learn how to progress through new music and learn new musical concepts.

Class Experience

Please note: This class picks up where Early Intermediate Piano Level O leaves off. Prospective students should be familiar with major and minor triads/scales and one-octave arpeggios. Sight reading music is essential to this class so prospective students should be comfortable with reading music in the Level 3B Piano Adventures series (material from Level O). In this class, students will explore expressiveness in music while exploring chord inversions, two octave scales & arpeggios dotted eighth to sixteenth notes and discovering the stylistic traits of Edvard Grieg and Scott Joplin.

Please note: We will be using Piano Adventures Lesson Book Level 4 (2nd Edition) for this class. It is a required text for the class.

Week One: We will review sixteenth and eight note rhythms, identify intervals (2-8) and review Major and Minor Scales. We will begin a review piece.

Week Two: Review rhythmic problems from previous class. Continue to develop the review piece.

Week Three: Check-in on Review pieces in full. Explore 2-Octave C Major and A Minor Scales for RH and LH. Practice C and Am Chord Inversions.

Week Four: Review chords in key of C. Discuss ragtime style. Begin a piece by Scott Joplin.

Week Five: Continue to develop the Joplin piece. Begin chord prep for Peer Gynt Suite.

Week Six: Continue to develop In the Hall of the Mountain King. Discuss sforzando.
