Class Experience

US Grade 1
In the Early Guided Reading Group: Levels H & I (1st Grade) class, students will embark on an exciting journey to enhance their reading abilities. This class is designed to strengthen decoding, fluency, and comprehension skills, while also nurturing their writing abilities.

With a focus on guided reading, students will explore age-appropriate books and develop strategies to decode words effectively. Through interactive activities and discussions, they will enhance their fluency, gaining confidence in reading with accuracy and expression. Comprehension skills will be honed as students delve deeper into texts, analyzing characters, settings, and plot elements. The fluency and decoding focus will be tailored to the individual needs and progress of each student.

Additionally, students will have opportunities to improve their writing skills, using the inspiration from the stories they read. Through guided exercises and creative prompts, they will learn how to express their thoughts and ideas effectively, building a strong foundation for future writing endeavors.

We will meet for 30 minutes. Here is how each class will go:
1. Introduction
2. Sight word practice: I will dictate 3 words and the students will practice writing them with a multi-sensory approach.
3. Read a book: I will introduce the book to the students. We will discuss any vocabulary or "tricky words" in the book. Each child will take turns reading a page or two aloud with my assistance. I will guide the children to read with fluency and accuracy.
4. Discussion: We will have a quick discussion about the book.
5. I will teach one new sight word.
6. Guided Writing: With my assistance, students will write 2 sentences about the book.

Students will improve their reading, fluency, decoding, and vocabulary.
