US Grade Kindergarten - 2
The learners will learn the writing process and write their own narrative story. What is a narrative story? A narrative story tells a story. The learners can also choose a personal narrative which tells a story about an event or something about them. The learners will work to create their own story with their own ideas. Each lesson, I will post videos in the classroom about the mini-lesson topics found in the syllabus. The videos will be through YouTube. I will give out resources to help reinforce what we are learning in the class. The learners will need to watch the video then do the assignment. I will explain the assignment and give examples at the end of my video presentations. I will also write the assignment in the post where I post the video. Then the learners will complete the assignment and share it with the class in the Outschool classroom. The learners can share by making a video or scanning the assignment then uploading it into the classroom. Background knowledge The learners need to be able to sound out and write cvc (consonant vowel consonant) words. At the beginning, their writings will be one or two words. We will work up to them writing a complete sentence. For the ones that can write a complete sentence, we will work on adding details. They do not need to know how to spell the words correctly. Phonetic spelling is ok. This class is geared toward kindergarten to second grade but third graders will be welcomed if they are just learning the writing process. The homework will take 5-20 minutes a day to complete. For the younger ones, you can start with a couple minutes and then gradually increase as we go. For the older ones, you can start at 5-10 minutes then increase. This class is geared toward kindergarten through second grade but third grade students just learning the process would be able to join as well. Learners will interact with each other and the teacher in the Outschool classroom. Interaction will include responses, assignments and giving each other ideas. They will post their assignments underneath the assignment post in the Outschool classroom. The learners can share the assignments by posting a video or scanning their work in the classroom. I will give feedback individually and as a group on Outschool either through the messaging system or the classroom tab. This course is scheduled in flex time for your convenience. Flex class means there will be no live meetings. The work is asynchronous and all activities will take place in the classroom portal not in zoom. The course is great for busy families. The student may access the materials at anytime during the course. The teacher will be available for 1 on 1 or group meetings upon request and will answer emails within 24 hours.
