Early Elementary Play My Way Through Phonics and Handwriting

We learn the alphabet by identifying letters and their sounds, forming letters correctly, and focusing on phonemic awareness. We learn phonics by listening to books read aloud, doing crafts, puzzles, dot-to-dot, playing games, and more.

Class Experience

Looking for a fun and exciting, playful course that will teach your child the alphabet. Sounds of each letter, letter recognition, letter sound correspondence, correct formation of both capital and lower case letters, visual discrimination, and more are all part of what your child will learn throughout this alphabet journey. Does your child struggle with letter recognition, sound recognition, letter formation, and/or letter sound correspondence? Is your child ready to start learning these skills? Does your child need review in these areas? Then this is the perfect class for you. This class will help your child overcome their anxiety with letters and sounds in a fun, playful, and interactive way.

This preschool class is an ongoing class where we will spend a week exploring each letter. Each week we will study a different letter. Each week is a stand alone independent set of classes with emphasis on one letter. Your child can join or drop the class at any time. You can come back and learn a new letter. New letters will be introduced until we have done all 26 letters and then the class will start over at the beginning. Class skills do not build upon the week before.

I ask that screens are kept on through out the lesson. The children's reactions allow me to adjust my teaching to meet their needs.
This class is set up to support all learners. I teach to many different learning styles and provide activities for all children. My classes are interactive and student interaction of some kind is expected. It could be a smile to agree, or a thumbs up, or an oral "yes." I will take whatever your child is comfortable with. I provide opportunities for your child to succeed.

This class is perfect for all learners. I have slides for the visual learner. Manipulatives for the tactile learners. Movement for the kinesthetic learner. Interaction vocally for the auditory learner. I create lessons that support your child no matter their learning style. This class will meet their needs.

We will sing together, move our bodies together, and play together. Oh, they will be learning...just don't tell them. I will introduce the letter of the week, we will watch a short video clip as we sing the alphabet song, watch a quick alphabet story, to add to the excitement. We will learn phonetic awareness through blending words to create compound words and rhyming words. We will learn pre-writing and handwriting skills through play with dough, letter dot-to-dots, creating the letter with different objects, putting a letter puzzle together, and finally writing the capital and lowercase letters. We will play sorting games (what pictures begin with our letter and which pictures do not), and playing a scavenger hunt game looking for capital and lowercase letters. We will complete journal activities; writing the letter, finding pictures that begin with that letter, reading sentences with our letter of the week in it, play "I Spy" the letter, and sort capital and lowercase letters. We will also play a digital response game for each letter. We will add some fun to the class by taking every third week to play games with the letters we have learned.

Learning will take place through an interactive slide presentation, short video clips, songs, movement, games, play, and class discussions. Your learner will interact with the teacher and other students through the use of colored dough, slide presentation, videos, games, worksheets, stories, class discussion, and more.

Parental Guidance
For my 3 and 4 your old's, I recommend parents sit next to their children just off camera to help make sure they have the right page, stay on task, and to keep them seated and quiet. I love a child's response. We just need to keep talking to a minimum. This class does use external sources. I use Google Slides and YouTube videos in my presentations. All slides and videos are rated G. This resource will only be used as a screen-share.
Supply List
I will post materials for each week on Sunday. Some items will be used weekly while others will be used specifically to that week's lesson.
