How did America come to be the country that it is today? Who were the first people to colonize what is now known as the United States? Where, how and why did our country start? In this course, students will learn the answers to the questions above (and lots more) as we explore the 13 colonies in early America. This class is designed to teach students about the creation of the 13 colonies and the impact they had in early America. Students will learn about the Europeans and the age of Enlightenment, the establishment of the colonies themselves, and the impact that the colonies had in the early years of American history. Students will be provided with detailed descriptions, illustrations, maps and various charts to understand key facts and ideas regarding the 13 colonies. Furthermore, students will be posed with various guided discussion questions, as well as encouraged to analyze the impact of colonization. The goal of this course is to provide students with background information to 1. give insight into how the earliest parts of America were formed, and 2. inspire students to appreciate the past as well as the present. All in all, this class will be highly interactive, with the majority of the work happening in the here-and-now of the class session. By the time this class is over, students will have a deeper understanding of the earliest history of the United States of America.
