In this flexibly-scheduled class, learners will be introduced to the stamp game as a way of performing hands-on operations with large numbers (into the thousands). Place value is reinforced with this method and and the meanings of terms like "borrowing" and "regrouping" and "carrying" all make so much more sense when learners have a chance to physically manipulate the values as they perform these operations. For this class, I will be using a physical stamp game as well as a virtual stamp...
I was a "Montessori child" myself and the stamp game is one of the materials that I find most engaging now as an educator. Both my children go to Montessori school and began using the stamp game and other Montessori materials at a young age. As a math teacher for over 14 years, I very much value the way that hands-on methods like these reinforce key concepts like place value, the decimal system, and general number sense.
1 file available upon enrollmentPrintable handouts will be provided, but the work can be done by copying the problems onto a separate sheet of paper for those that do not have access to a printer. A physical Stamp Game is not required, but is recommended. Mine is from Pink Montessori, but the wait time was pretty slow. If you are hoping for it to arrive faster, you might want to check out Amazon: https://rb.gy/n64edj. (This link is provided for your convenience. It is not an affiliate link.)
