In this single adventure (90 minutes), students will play the role of young wizards on their first day of wizardry school. Players should have at least a basic understanding of D&D and a desire to learn more. We will use Zoom to communicate verbally together as well as use rolldicewithfriends.com to roll dice. Dungeons & Dragons is a fun and exciting game to play! It has had a great surge of new players in the past few years and currently there is an estimated 13.7 million active D&D players worldwide! Not only is D&D fun and exciting, it also has numerous learning ""side effects."" Some of these numerous learning side effects include: math skills, collaboration, problem solving, acting, spatial reasoning, research, history, culture, ethics, critical reading, and so much more.
I have been a middle school teacher for 18 years and have been playing Dungeons & Dragons for... 30+ years! Put those two things together and teaching and playing D&D with kids here on Outschool is a favorite pastime of mine.
Once you sign up and get access to the pre-made characters, I suggest you print out the character sheet of the young wizard you would like to play. You will need a pencil too.
1 hour 30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Simulated Combat. It is possible there will be mild violence in a session. Dungeons & Dragons provides rules on how to defeat "bad guys." This may include include using weapons (swords, bow & arrow, etc.) and magic spells (fire, polymorph, etc.).
http://rolldicewithfriends.com/ - We will use this site to roll dice. Students may want to familiarize themselves with the app. Once you join the class, you will have access to the character sheets from which you can pick.
