Description
Class Experience
This class is taught in English.
Learners will create a shared story with each other. By doing this, they will learn how to collaborate with others, problem solve and workshop solutions, engage creatively with one another, and learn how to speak with others in a fun and safe environment.
I have been a dungeon master for over 10 years and many of my games have been spent teaching young people how to play.
Prior to attending their first session, learners will need to submit a character sheet for review. This must be done at least 12 hours in advance. They only need to do this once. There will be some restrictions on character creation, which will be noted in the class. Between each session, the teacher may post updates. The learners must be able and willing to read these updates and reply where needed in a timely manner. Optional: Between each session, learners may submit a short journal entry from the point of view of their character. In this journal, they should talk about the previous week's adventure and what happened. Turning this journal entry in will allow the learner to earn an Inspiration Point for use in the game.
A pencil and paper to take notes. A free Dungeons and Dragons Beyond account to create their character. Polyhedral dice to roll with: d4, d6, d8, d10, d12, and d20. These cost between $6 to 12 depending on where you get them and how they look. Check your local comic book store or Amazon. Or you may download any of the free dice roller apps from the app store onto their phone. Optional: A printout of their character sheet.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
1 hour 30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
D&D features violence and killing, but it is all in our imagination.
