Class Experience

Beginner Level
This class is an ongoing Dungeons & Dragons campaign. It will use the 5th Edition rules and will incorporate situations that require critical thinking, teamwork, problem-solving, communication, role-playing, and imagination. Ideally, the student should have a basic foundation of the rules of 5th Edition. Resources and references will be provided as needed, to facilitate a better understanding of the rules and game mechanics for newer players.

This adventure will take the players from 1st level to 10th level or more, depending on how long they participate in the campaign. The Dungeon Master will use the Foundry virtual tabletop to run the game. Players will each get a custom token to represent and manage their character. Foundry is the most feature rich virtual table top on the market and allows for stunning audio and visual effects, players options, and scenery. Highly detailed maps, beautiful soundscapes, and is easy to use for the players.

The adventure will involve this rough outline. It is intentionally vague, so as to not give away the story or potential progression and also reflects the fact that the players will have a large part in dictating where the adventure goes. Because of this, there is no definitive structure, as it can be heavily directed by the players actions. As much as I may direct certain things to happen, ultimately, the players can make different decisions, which lead to different paths of the story. That said, here is my general direction.

Week of July 31st - 1. Character Creation & Introduction: There will be a short meet and greet and then an opportunity to role-play with one another and get acquainted. They will have the opportunity to choose from a few different tasks or areas of interest as we dive into the story. This is the rebuilding phase from a post apocalyptic event.

Week of August 7th - 2. Choose a Path: Depending on the choices from week 1, the players will be exploring different aspects of the adventure and exploring any of the various areas and storylines that are possible. You will have a mix of sandbox and directed style campaign where your choices will shape how the story progresses.

Week of August 14th - 3. Choose a Base: The players will likely be choosing where they will base themselves out of and what areas they wish to explore. Given the open structure of the story, the opportunities are numerous.

Week of August 21st - 4. Decision Time: The first major plot hook will likely drop and the players will be faced with some major decisions.

Week of August 28th - 5. The First Boss: This will likely be the first boss style fight. Depending on how the players handle it, some plot information will be revealed and the first magic items will be found.

Week of September 4th - 6. Aftermath: Depending on how the boss fight went, the players will have some important decisions to make as to where they start exploring next. Every decision will shape the story!

Players will have many opportunities to really create whatever experience they desire. Want to start a fort? Want to raise an army? A thieves guild? Whatever it is the players want, we can make it happen. This is a homebrew world that is yours for the shaping!

***PLEASE READ***
Guidelines: All sources (except Strixhaven material) are acceptable for character creation, as long as it is published D&D material. Playtest sources will be considered on a case by case basis and require approval. All characters must use the Point Buy or Standard Array method for Ability Score Generation and use the Fixed Hit Points option. The Character should start at 1st level. Feats and Multiclassing are allowed but must follow requirements. No Homebrew material outside of my own is allowed at the start, but may be considered in the future.
Learning Goals
To have fun while learning to work in a group, solve problems, think critically, use creativity and imagination It is designed to help players delay gratification, face consequences, and see the benefits of making decisions and taking action.

Other Details

Parental Guidance
There is simulated combat, conflict, and narration that occurs in D&D. None of this will be especially graphic and will only serve to set the scene and experience. It will be very age-appropriate. Remember to keep your private information private - for example, no last names, home cities, or gaming handles! The Forge and DnDBeyond will require Usernames. Please remember to keep your handles and passwords protected and not shared. Players will also be strongly encouraged to make and maintain their character in dndbeyond.com. This requires Parental consent.
Pre-Requisites
Ideally, the student has some experience with 5th Edition D&D. However, new players are also welcome and will be guided and instructed as we play. This is open to all skill levels.

I have been playing D&D since I was 7 years old. It has been a huge part of my growth, development, and entertainment. I'm a skilled, role-player, narrator, and storyteller. I have a very patient and enthusiastic nature and try to make the class as welcoming and comfortable as possible. This isn't just a game to me, but a passion. I think this is a profound experience and can facilitate such growth and foster bonds of friendship that can last a lifetime.
