Dungeons & Dragons (5e): Creating Your First Character & Getting Started!

In this one-time, 75-minute class, students will create a character that they can use to play in campaigns of Dungeons and Dragons (5e), while also learning more about the game! 

Class will begin with a discussion of what Dungeons and Dragons is, where we can gauge everyone’s experience level, talk about supplies needed to create our characters, and I can clarify any questions learners have already. Learners should have their 5e Player's Handbook ready or they can follow the link in the classroom's welcome post to a PDF version of it! A 5e character sheet will also be attached there; learners can print it out to use it in class, if they'd like.

When we're ready, we’ll move into character creation—where we get to stretch our creative muscles! Your character can be anything you choose—they can be smart or dumb; short or tall; human or not. Your imagination is the limit! I’ll be there to help you figure out the details and answer questions you have along the way. Throughout class, we will discuss and choose our character's: 1) species, 2) class(es), and 3) alignment. Then, we will flesh out their "stats"--strength, dexterity, constitution, intelligence, wisdom, and charisma--using our favorite dice or dice app to roll out the numbers!

At the end of our time together, we should all have fun characters we’re satisfied with—making you ready to start any level one, 5e D&D campaign!
