Parents please read the email I send you once your learner signs up for the class. There's important information that your learner must know and do before they can play their first game. Thank you. Notice: This class uses the Roll20 website to play D&D. This class does not use D&D Beyond. Roll20 is not compatible with phones, tablets or iPad so please ensure your learner has a laptop or desktop computer to use. Thank you. Students will learn how to play Dungeons and Dragons by playing the Lost Mines of Phandelver campaign using a free roll20.net account. I will post a link to the specific Roll20 game for each class. We will also use Zoom to interact with each other. I will be the Dungeon Master (the person who facilitates the game and ensures fair play. In the beginning of the first class I will go over the basic rules of D&D and then revisit those rules whenever necessary. As the game progresses the following topic will be taught; team work, team building, public speaking, reasoning, critical thinking, math, problem solving, research skills and much more. Learners can expect challenging situations in every session that will push them to use the skills I mentioned above. The first session will cover the basics of the game, creating a character, reading the character sheet, public speaking (each student will introduce themselves and their character. Students can jump into the adventure at anytime, therefore the following is a loose interpretation of how the sessions are organized. I will teach a little of each topic in every session. We will cover adventuring and gear, combat and actions taken. How to interact with NPCs (non player characters). How to properly conduct adventuring, combat and how to properly interact as team. How teamwork to defeat a boss. Reading and understanding character stats and researching. Critical thinking in playing the game. With all subsequent sessions your student will have fun and learn/hone many life skills.
Learning Goals
Students will learn team building, teamwork, problem solving, critical thinking, research and math skills all while having fun using their imaginations. Students will speak with each other (public speaking) and learn how to listen to other points of view as well as voice their own. Students will learn how to respect other people's opinions and be considerate of those opinions.
