What's included

1 hrs 30 mins in-class hours per week
Homework
1 hour per week. I will post links to Youtube videos that explain how to play D&D. I've watched all theses videos to ensure their content is appropriate. Students are required to read about their character, know how to read a character sheet and understand any new upgrades to weapons and spells as they level up. Don't worry if you are a new player I will explain all of this to you.

Class Experience

Notice: This class uses the Roll20 website to play D&D. This class does not use D&D Beyond. Roll20 is not compatible with phones, tablets or iPad so please ensure your learner has a laptop or desktop computer to use. Thank you.

!!!!!Parents please read the email I send you once your learner signs up for the class. There's important information that your learner must know and do before they can play their first game!!!! Thank you.

This class uses roll20.net. You will need to sign up your student for my Dungeons and Dragons Roll20 Character Building class prior to their first session. I will send you an email with instructions.

Students will play using a combination of Zoom via Outschool and a free roll20.net account. Using roll20 will allow each player to move their character token freely around the map in order to have a more dynamic experience. A link to each classes private game is provided in the classroom.

New and veteran D&D players will learn how to play Mythic Odysseys of Theros. I will be your Dungeon Master (the person who facilitates the game and ensures fair play) as you embark on your Odyssey. In the beginning of the first class I will go over the basic rules of DnD and then revisit those rules whenever necessary. As the game progresses the following topic will be taught; team work, team building, public speaking, reasoning, critical thinking, math, problem solving, research skills and much more.

Learners can expect challenging situations in every session that will push them to use the skills I mentioned above.

The first session will cover the basics of the game, choosing a character, reading the character sheet, public speaking (each student will introduce themselves and their character. The following sessions will cover
adventuring and gear
combat and actions taken
how to interact with NPCs (non player characters)
adventuring
combat and how to properly interact as a team.
using teamwork in battles
character stats and researching.
critical thinking in playing the game.

As the student's game knowledge progresses, creatures will be harder to defeat and students must use all their previously learned skills to defeat them.
Learning Goals
Students will learn team building, teamwork, problem solving, critical thinking, research and math skills all while having fun using their imaginations. Students will speak with each other (public speaking) and learn how to listen to other points of view as well as voice their own. Students will learn how to respect other people's opinions and be considerate of those opinions.

Welcome, I'm thrilled to share a bit about myself with you. I wear many hats, but at the heart of it all, I'm a passionate educator and enthusiast of all things Dungeons and Dragons, math, reading, spelling, vocabulary, history, Lego, and gaming.

Teaching and Learning: My journey as an educator has been a thrilling adventure starting when I joined the Army in 1995 where I instructed thousands of students throughout my 27 year career. I'm dedicated to helping students explore the fascinating world of knowledge. Whether it's demystifying the intricate mechanics of D&D, making math engaging and accessible, fostering a love for literature, or delving into the rich tapestry of history, I relish every moment spent in the classroom or at the gaming table.

Values and Beliefs: In all aspects of my life, I hold dear to certain core values. Responsibility, compassion, respect, diversity, and perseverance are the guiding principles that shape my interactions with others and my approach to teaching. I firmly believe that instilling these values in young minds is just as important as the subjects I teach.

Hobbies and Interests: When I'm not deep into the world of education and gaming, you can find me outdoors, enjoying a game of cornhole. It's a perfect way to unwind and connect with friends and family. Just like in my teaching, I value the spirit of competition and camaraderie in every game.

Join Me in This Journey: I invite you to explore my profile, where I'll be sharing my knowledge, insights, and experiences in all the domains I'm passionate about. Whether you're a student seeking to enhance your skills or a parent/caregiver searching for a class, you'll find valuable resources here.

Thank you for stopping by, and feel free to reach out with any questions, suggestions, or just to say hello. Let's embark on this learning adventure together!
