Class experience

US Grade 7 - 10
Students will hone their writing skills, focusing on descriptive passages, dialogue, and creating dynamic characters. In doing so, they will explore various literary devices that will improve their writing. Students will also practice the social skills needed to share their work and provide feedback to others, gaining confidence with their abilities at a pace that suits them.
Creative writing has always been a passion of mine. I have published modules on DMs Guild and I have taught creative writing through Dungeons and Dragons since June of 2018. I have run D&D adventures since that time as well. I am also the parent of neurodiverse, socially anxious children (two of whom have successfully homeschooled and are now in college), and I am a member of the LGBTQ community. This has all given me ample experience in providing gentle encouragement and support in academic growth as well as improving social skills, and creating a welcoming, affirming space for all learners.
Homework Offered
Students may work on their writing before class if they wish and are welcome to come to class with a completed passage, but we will also spend time during class writing. Students do not need to work on their writing outside of class time if they would rather not.
Assessments Offered
Supportive, constructive feedback is given from both the teacher and the other learners.
Grades Offered
Students may be asked to describe monsters, combat, or personal conflict.
