In this second, introductory course, students will play through a 90-minute, standalone story using their general understanding of the D&D's structure from 101 and pregenerated characters provided by me (unless they have one of their own already). I will describe the story, the setting, the scenes, the characters, and the entire world which will mold and adapt around the choices and actions of the students as they work collaboratively in-character to fight monsters, solve puzzles, and interact with the characters in the game. After this class, students will know the basics and terminology well enough that they can jump into creating their own characters. They may even be confident enough to try their hand at creating characters on their own. This course assumes completion of or competence in Learn to Play Dungeons and Dragons 101 (Basics).
Learning Goals
Due to the vastness of options in Dungeons and Dragons, students will learn and exercise many skills, including the following:
-storytelling
-critical thinking
-teamwork
-problem solving
-conflict resolution
-resolutions of ethical and moral dilemmas
-math and reading fluency

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have spent much time playing in and running Dungeons and Dragons campaigns. I also have much experience teaching D&D to new players. As far as teaching children goes, I've spent over a decade teaching ages 8-18 in the classroom and have served in many roles from Master Teacher to Curriculum Developer to Network Trainer to Academy Headmaster (all with Great Hearts Academies).
