DSLR or Mirrorless Camera Crash Course
Class experience
This class is a great introduction for students who have just begun exploring their cameras. It provides information that can be referenced as they continue to use their cameras. This class is information-packed, but does not require students to take or turn in any photos. They will be invited to share exploratory shots in the classroom. It is focused on understanding the main mechanisms and settings of the camera broadly, kind of like a two day "tour" of your camera. Class 1: Batteries,...
Students will learn their way around their DSLR camera, and will be prepared to embark on further learning with greater ability to express what they want to learn more about. They will understand - File storage, transfer, and battery charging practices - The shutter and the different ways it can be triggered. - The standard options on a Shooting Mode dial - The different ways a camera can focus - The basics of exposure -- how light is seen by a camera - The mechanisms of P, A, S and M / P, Av, Tv, and M Modes - The basic principles of photography as a creative art
I hold a BA in Studio Art/Photography and Psychology, and am trained both as a photographer and as a Montessori assistant teacher. As an educator I have experience teaching children pre-K through high school.
