Drum Fun for Everyone!

In this one-time class students will explore the basics of playing a concert snare drum, including stick grip, playing technique, and a fun warmup.

Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 6
Beginner Level
This activity-based class will cover the following topics:
Basic information about the snare drum
How to hold drumsticks for concert drumming
Good posture, hand position, and stroke technique
Basic snare drum notation
Practice on a simple and fun snare drum warmup

As we cover each topic, students will be provided with live demonstrations and real-time, positive, and encouraging feedback to help them succeed.

No drumming experience needed. The purpose of the class is to give learners an overview of basic concepts and to encourage further exploration of concert drumming. This class does not cover drum set techniques, only concert snare drum.

Please note: Students will need a set of drumsticks, and something to drum on. Any type of snare drum or a drum practice pad is preferred, but a thick softcover book or a mousepad can be substituted.

Learning Goals

Students will increase their understanding and appreciation for the concert snare drum and how it is played.
Students will work towards proper technique while performing on the snare drum.

Supply List
Students will need a set of drumsticks ($5), and something to drum on. Any type of snare drum or a drum practice pad ($12) is preferred, but a thick softcover book or a mousepad can be substituted.
All music being performed in this class will be provided by me.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
