US Grade 3 - 6
In this class, students are given the opportunity to read without pressure. They can read the book of their choice, whether that be a book for school, a book they love to read over and over again, or something they just picked up from the library. Students will be given 25 minutes of uniteruptted reading time, followed by an opportunity to share with the group what they're reading, what is going on in their book, or what they think is going to happen next. Each week will have a specific question posed to the group, but students are welcome to share what they would like about their story. For example: Week of July 8: What challenges are the characters in your book facing? Week of July 15: What do you think is going to happen in the next chapter? Week of July 22: How is what is happening in this chapter related to what happened at the beginning of the book? Week of July 29: What does the main character need to do in order to solve their current problems?
Learning Goals
Students will improve their reading fluency and critical thinking skills, and develop their ability to discuss materials they are engaging in with others.
