US Grade 3 - 4
Understanding the roles of verbs, adverbs, and adjectives in a sentence can improve writing, grammar, and punctuation. In this class, we will explain the roles of these parts of speech, identify them in sentences, learn to search out more vivid examples, and discuss punctuation and grammar rules for using them. Week 1: What is a verb? What is an adverb? What is an adjective? Through group writing, individual exercises, games, and diagramming, learners will gain understanding of these parts of speech. We will learn the role of each in a sentence and how to identify these parts of speech. We will use basic sentence diagramming to visually see their function in the sentence. Week 2: How can these parts of speech improve my writing? Through group writing, group editing, individual exercises, and games, learners will discover ways to embellish their writing. We will add additional words to our sentences to give more information and description. We will also learn methods for replacing our words with stronger and more vivid words. We may also discuss punctuation rules for these words in our sentences.
Learning Goals
Learners will have the opportunity to play with words as they grow in understanding of verbs, adverbs, and adjectives.
