There will not be any homework assigned, but since dance takes strength and repetition to perfect, it would be great for children to practice movements between lessons.Class Experience
Welcome to Ms. Sarah's virtual dance studio! This course is for beginning level students ages 3.5-5 years old. Come explore the magical world of royal princesses and princes, dance, music, and elegance! I am SO excited to share this beautiful art form with my new friends! Don't forget to dress up in your favorite dress or prince/princess inspired outfit! No prior dance experience will be required. Clear a small space in your home and get ready to have fun together! Students are invited to dress up as their favorite member of royalty along with Ms. Sarah and dance away! Classes will begin with a fun warm up, done through the telling of a story to increase mobility and flexibility. We will stretch to make sure our bodies are ready to move! We will work on strength building and incorporating new foundational techniques in both ballet and tap dance. We will work on strength building and incorporating new techniques at the Ballet Barre (you may use a chair). Afterwards, we will work on exercises where we will explore our space and the floor, create personalized movements, and work on interacting with classmates. Then, we will move on to learning tap movements where we will work on incorporating rhythm, new techniques, and confidence in our own bodies.
Learning Goals
Students will learn a variety of stretches that can also be done outside of the classroom. In the ballet portion of class, we will work on foundational moves such as the first and second leg positions, port de bras, plies, tendus, passes, and aerobesques. In the tap portion of class, we will work on identifying our toes and heels (and the sounds we can make), and learning shuffles, flaps, and slow cramp rolls. We will also focus on rhythm and keeping time.

Parental Guidance
It is highly recommended that parents accompany their young dancer and provide assistance.
Supply List
Students are more than welcome to dress up for class, as long as clothing is loosely fitted and does not have anything a child could trip over. Although ballet and tap shoes are not required, it would be great if they could use them in class. If the student does not have tap shoes, that is fine. They could join using sneakers (with laces tied tightly) instead. If possible, please provide a chair or something sturdy at an appropriate length for the height of your child for balancing. Please make sure your child takes the class in an open area where they will not accidentally kick something or put themselves in danger. Ideally, the space would not be slippery, but if it is a slippery surface, it is recommended to use non-stick socks or shoes. Parents and guardians should remain nearby to assist and prevent accidents. Children are free to dress up in prince and princess clothing, but please make sure the attire is loosely fitting. Having a water bottle nearby is ideal. If class is taken during warmer months, it is ideal to have an air conditioner or fan running to prevent overheating.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello current friends and future friends!
Welcome to Ms. Sarah's virtual classes! I am super excited to share my passions including dance, world travel, music, writing, theater, and more with your children! My typical classes are high energy and intended to build skills, increase confidence, and have fun.
I graduated with honors with a double major in Psychology and Communications with a minor in Music from The City University of New York--Hunter College. I studied in Argentina at La Universidad de Mar del Plata and I hold a TESOL Certificate from Arizona State University.
My experience includes both in-school and online teaching, particularly as an ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher over the last four years and as a dance teacher for about ten years. As an ESL teacher, have worked with thousands of foreign learners, guiding them to high achievement with their English skills. I've created and utilized many tools and techniques to increase student output and improve their written, spoken, and reading skills. I also work as a mentor for new online ESL teachers. I was also who helped build the English skills of students at a local school in Livingstone, Zambia in Africa. I have taught and can speak both Spanish and Hebrew as well.
I am a trained dancer with experience holding classes in ballet, jazz, contemporary, theater, and hip hop. I studied and trained my whole life as a dancer. I danced with companies and in shows in New York City. I have also taught dance at schools in New York City, abroad in other countries. I hold both personal and virtual dance and movement classes with the company I created in my area. I ran the dance department at a day rehabilitation facility for special needs adults and at a school for the blind. What is my philosophy behind teaching dance? Dance is an art form. It is a creation of movement used to tell a story. My classes are constructed with the aim of building the student's confidence and providing a safe space for their own exploration. Classes are meant to be challenging, but very fun!
Fun Fact: Upon graduating from college, my big goal was to hit "30 before 30!" I have traveled the world, meeting so many different people along the way, as I made it my mission to see 30 countries. I am looking forward to meeting all of my future friends who live around the USA and around the world.
I am so excited to see you soon in my classroom!
