Dream Poetry (Analyze Langston Hughes Poems and Write Your Own!)
In this class learners will explore the power of their hopes and dreams through poetry. They will analyze 2 Langston Hughes poems, "The Dream Keeper" and "Dreams." They will write their own poem modeled on one of Hughes' poems.

In this class learners will analyze 2 poems "The Dream Keeper" and "Dreams" by Harlem Renaissance poet, Langston Hughes. They will identify figurative language and other literary devices in the poems. They will discuss interpretations of the poems and identify the morals of the poem. Learners will also have the opportunity to write their own poem modeled after one of Hughes' poems. This will give them the chance to practice using figurative language and literary devices in their own writing....
I have a Bachelor's degree in English from Cornell University, a Master's degree in English from Harvard University, and a Ph.D in African and African American Studies from Harvard University. I also have a Master's degree in Secondary English Education. I have 15 years experience teaching English and history to middle and high school students.
Copies of the 2 poems will be supplied. Learners can write their poems on the computers they are using for the class, or they can use paper and pencil/pen.
