Class Experience

You are invited to create your very own 3-dimensional free-standing Baby Yoda paper-based sculpture from The Mandalorian show and Star Wars universe. Armed with some basic craft supplies (paper, scissors, glue, and pens) and various tips and techniques, you will learn a step-by-step approach to create your very own Baby Yoda. Learners can follow right along the instructor as we socialize, do some Mandalorian/Star Wars trivia, and then show off our Baby Yoda's at the end of class.

After introductions, we will view photos of "The Child" in action for creative inspiration and to make personal design choices. Will you create a happy Baby Yoda? A hungry Baby? or a sleepy Yoda? Whatever you decide...This Is The Way and The Force Will Be With You...

Learning Goals

We will learn how to make a custom-made Baby Yoda paper-based sculpture and how to manipulate the paper (poster board, cardstock, or construction paper is ideal) through folding, twisting, and connecting the Baby Yoda materials. We will learn the crafting techniques and design process to create additional 3D paper-based sculptures. Additionally, learners will learn some basic drawing techniques (sketching, shading, and how to transfer images to paper). Learners will also interact by having the opportunity to introduce themselves at the beginning of class, answer trivia questions, ask questions, and present their Baby Yoda at the end of the class.

Other Details

Parental Guidance
Although the television show, The Mandalorian, can depict violence and battle scenes, the images I am using are solely close shots of the adorable Baby Yoda, and do not contain any violent imagery whatsoever.
Supply List
A Baby Yoda template will be waiting in the classroom on the website for all enrolled learners before the scheduled class. Learners can either print out the template or use it as a guide in creating their own Baby Yoda pattern. Learners are encouraged to cut out their template prior to the beginning of class, so that we have more time to create our Baby Yoda sculptures.

All that is needed are a few basic art supplies:

scissors,
black sharpie pen/permanent marker, pencil
glue and double stick (or foam mount) tape
green paper for Yoda's head and hands (ideally green poster board, card stock, or construction paper or you can also color your Baby Yoda with green markers/pen instead)
Brown paper for Yoda's robe (or you can color the robe brown if you only have white paper)

ruler (optional)
tracing paper (optional) - helpful to transfer the template to your Baby Yoda paper.

GREAT Recycling Tip #1: You can also use a standard brown paper grocery store bag to create Yoda's robe.

Great Recycling Tip # 2: You can put your Baby Yoda on top of an empty toilet paper roll and he'll stand up very well.

(NOTE: The thicker foam boards are not ideal, because they don't bend easily or retain the shapes that we want to make)
 7 files available upon enrollment
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Sources
We will look at some images of Baby Yoda (supplied by instructor) for creative inspiration. No other outside sources needed. Learners are welcome to bring their own favorite images of Baby Yoda for additional creative inspiration.
