The only "homework" that I ever give is for them to complete the artworks that we begin in class (if they did not finish it) and to think about the next Creative Challenge that I give them at the end of each art class. *My students draw, draw, and then draw some more between classes. Hello there parents of Creative Kids! My name is Dale Crum and I have been an professional artist since 1975. This sets me apart as a sort of YODA of art and design. I am also PAPAW CRUM, to my five beautiful grandchildren, so I have the privilege of guiding the next generation into the Wonderful World of the Arts. *Baby Yoda is our official classroom mascot. So, I understand that all of these awesome, Younger Art-Jedi-Recruits are excited about their own creativity. I teach them how to harness their ideas and focus on a specific creative Dragon challenge for the day. My classroom experience is designed build a solid, fun foundation that lasts throughout their entire creative lives. *Please note that they will need your help to find photos of the Creature Challenge as we begin each class. If they can have another screen of some kind (EVEN A PHONE) to refer back to these photos throughout the class that really helps. A wide range of Dragons and other Creatures are set before them and I help them to explore the shapes and colors and HOW TO draw them... step by step. My Younger students learn how to bring their own fantasy creatures to life. They are also given the chance to explain their own ideas for their Dragon. I regularly allow everyone to participate, yes, even the shy ones. I have found that quite often, the most quiet child...has the best creative input; once given the chance to shine! Self-confidence-boost is therefore an intentional bi-product of taking my art classes. My Students will be taught many different drawing techniques. So, it is helpful if the leaner has had some basic experience in drawing. I begin the class by showing pictures of their weekly creative challenge, then I show them how to draw their own concept of the creature of the day. We also examine how they see a given creature in their minds eye; including the body type, eating habits and much more. After a bit of talking it out then we all begin to draw. THEY draw THEIR very own version of the creature...as THEY see it. This is the perfect method for young learners to begin to understand that THEY have their own unique voice in the arts. Their confidence grows stronger with every class. I have forged a perfect forum for them to have fun, while learning to become an Artist. CREATIVE STORYTELLING: *I have also strategically designed my classes as an introduction to creative storytelling. We begin each class with a brief introduction of any first time learners, and the creative challenge of the day. I use the last 15 minutes of each class to recap and have every student share their concept drawings with everyone. It is during this final portion that I have them tell us a little about their creature. This is where the introduction to storytelling really comes to life! For decades, I toured America and several countries around the world performing my own original Drama and Comedy Characters. Silly voices were a huge part of creative ministry, so they are a regular part of my Outschool classes...every single class! WE HAVE A BLAST, soooo if your child does NOT like to have FUN then please do NOT sign up! HAHAHAHAHAHA!
Learning Goals
My Goals for your amazing younger child is to build a strong and lasting, creative foundation. I help them to begin to understand the gifts that they have and how those beautiful talents can be a wonderful blessing throughout their lives. They will learn about shapes, shadows, and how our world is all about the relationship of light, shapes, and textures. And how these realities all come together in THEIR very own original Dragon Drawings!

Supply List
Basic Drawing Pad, 9"x12" or larger. *No paper with lines on it. Better paper makes better Artwork. Whatever pencils, color pencils, and other drawing tools they have and enjoy using. Good eraser *I will be drawing on a digital drawing tablet using a pen mouse. I do this so that they can actually SEE what I am drawing. If they have a tablet and drawing App that is fine for them to use as well.

I announce the Creative Challenge at the start of every class, then I lead by creating a masterwork right before their eyes, while they draw their own wonderful work of art! I draw digitally, using a pen-mouse so that every detail is clearly visible to my students, throughout the class.
I am always teaching them how to navigate and resolve any creative issues that come up, as they seek to bring their own, unique creatures to life.
We all start with the same Creative-Creature-Challenge...and end up with a beautiful, diverse collection of original concepts brought to visual form.

About Me
I am a Christian, Husband, Daddy, and Papaw (of 5 so far).
I have been an outdoors-man and student of nature my entire life. I have spent thousands of hours in the woods, of the Southern United States, and in the Jungles of Belize Central America in 1981, as a missionary as well.
My passion for nature even led me on a quest for Patterns found in Nature. I have been creating revolutionary digital works of my patterns since 2002. You will find many beautiful examples of these on my website.
My international design, teaching and theatrical, missions experiences have taken me across the globe, to Taipei Taiwan, Haiti 6 times, Guatemala, performing 3 tours in England, Scotland 2 times, and even as far away as Australia!
My design career as Director of Product Development, from 1984 till now, has brought many large, national corporations multiplied millions in sales, including: Walmart, Hobby Lobby, Cracker Barrel, and many more.
I have designed over 3,000 products, so far.
I have been an Arts Educator, Actor, Public Speaker, Mentor, Instructor, and Theatrical Director forever it seems. I have been very blessed to guide countless creative souls, to maximize their own gifts. Beginning in their childhood, and onward through their own Professional Careers.
It has been a beautiful ride, watching them succeed.
