Class Experience

Greetings! Welcome to the art club for anime and manga enthusiasts where you can draw to your heart's content! We will practice drawing anime in different styles and develop our own style over time. Learners will have the opportunity to meet with other learners who enjoy watching anime and reading manga and share ideas of what makes for an interesting character. We will sketch or doodle our drawings first, then we will make a cleaner version. Coloring is optional but not necessary. This class is dedicated to experimentation, making mistakes, and evolving to better artists.

The art club focuses more on social interaction with other learners that share their same interests (drawing, anime, etc.) and is less lecture and assessment based. As an option, we may do an ice breaker during the beginning of our class time together where club members share their favorite anime/manga/game. Learners can enjoy drawing their own original artwork or follow along with the teacher's drawing and share their artworks with each other. Materials to bring to the club include paper and pencil, or any other supplies your learner will like to use (pen, markers, tablet, etc). Club members will decide what we will draw at the beginning of each meeting based off topics/categories I will provide for them in class. These topics are optional and is suggested as an idea or activity for our club meeting. Club members are welcome to share ideas related to the content of the club such as video games, books, or any media that inspires their creativity.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! I am Teacher Amber! I am passionate about teaching young learners ages 3-7 to read and write and will center my Outschool classes on penmanship and phonological awareness like alliteration, rhyming, and blending words. I have experienced first hand as a long term Kindergarten permanent substitute how my students were all at different levels of reading and writing. I always found time to sit down and help them improve their writing and fluency skills. I have earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies, Teacher & Bilingual Education through the traditional teaching program from Texas A&M University from Kingsville, TX where I took courses on child development and the Foundations of Literacy Instruction. Through this program, I have been able to exchange ideas and teaching strategies with other teachers in the program and learn from others’ teaching philosophies while developing my own philosophy around progressivism.

I completed two semester long classroom observations for a kindergarten class and a 2nd grade class where I guided student-dictated reading prompts for students to write in their journals following a read aloud story. When I graduated, I received my Texas Educator Certificate in Core Subjects EC-6 in December 2017 allowing me to teach a variety of subjects to learners in early childhood through 6th grade. I hope I can transfer over to the Outschool online teaching platform the invaluable knowledge and skills I acquired over the years from my classroom experiences and education.

Something fun about me is that I love drawing! I remember when I was 9, I had uncovered the amazing world of anime and manga. It has opened my eyes to something new and exciting! My first anime I fell in love with was Inuyasha, followed by Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball Z, and Cased Closed. I always drew in my sketchbook any opportunity I could get. I joined my art clubs in middle and high school. I picked up a few more mediums along the way like painting and clay sculpting. I want to teach art like "How To" Drawings and paintings. I have had years of practice drawing and sketching since my childhood because of my fascination with anime and manga. That fascination has never died! I will love to teach children of different age ranges 4-8 and 9-13 depending on the complexity of the drawings. I want to incorporate my love for drawing into my teaching style.
