1 live meeting
35 mins in-class hours
Homework
There’s no specific homework, but artists may want to try other designs and blend more colors for new compositions.
Assessment
Throughout the class, learners will be encouraged to share their work to assess their progress and understanding. We will engage in respectful and relaxed conversation and they are always encouraged to ask questions as needed.

Class Experience

After brief introductions, we will start our oil pastel drawing of a desert sunset! But first, we need to review warm colors and our design! We will talk about many things we see out in the world that are warm colors and also get familiar with the specific desert sunset colors and composition. It is beautiful!

Artists will be shown live, step-by-step, how to compose the drawing layer by layer, using pairs of warm colors and creating tertiary colors of their own (depending on each artists’ set of oil pastels, the colors may be slightly different). While we are drawing we will talk about how the pastels work for the best results. We will also talk about perspective and how the hues change to shadows or tints depending on where they are in our composition.

Artists will need:
- Oil pastels in a variety of colors
(These are NOT powdery and WILL say “oil” on the package; please be specific in checking what you buy, thank you!)
- Mixed media or art paper

 * Please understand- we must have at least a minimum of two learners to have class, but we often have last-minute enrollments. If you are the first learner enrolled, please wait and we can transfer or refund if necessary. Thank you for understanding!
Learning Goals
My goal is for artists to have fun creating colorful artwork using an art medium they may not have tried and to continue to experiment on their own.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Music or Theatre or Arts from UCLA
I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from UCLA and have enjoyed working with vibrant colors through markers, paints, and pastels. My personal style is more abstract, graphic, and even impressionistic and this is reflected in my own artwork over the years. I worked with young learners for several years when I was in charge of a volunteer- lead art program that focused on art elements and the art masters. We did many different types of projects and used different media and techniques each month. Sharing these colorful and simple ideas with young artists is exciting and I often learn from them as well as they share their ideas and express themselves in new ways.
