Class Experience

US Grade 6 - 9
Beginner - Intermediate Level
Interested in learning techniques to make your colored pencil drawings look more realistic?
In this class we'll practice fundamental skills that you can use for realistic colored pencil drawings.

**Artist-grade colored pencils (such as Prismacolors) are a necessity for this course.

Lesson topics:
Lesson 1: Techniques practice: mark-making, blending, layering, shading, and highlighting
Lesson 2: Practical applications of week 1 techniques-- small object drawings
Lesson 3: Tiger eyes project part 1: shadow layers
Lesson 4: Tiger eyes project part 2: color & highlights

Each lesson consists of guided drawing videos in an easy to follow format. Students practice intermediate drawing techniques as they follow along with step-by-step videos, and can receive guidance and feedback for every assignment.

In lesson 1, we'll draw a fun, simple sketch and fill in the pieces with fundamental colored pencil techniques (mine has jellybean aliens and a flying saucer, but yours can be different!).

For lesson 2 we'll use those techniques to draw several realistic objects: a cherry, an avocado, and a lock of hair.

In lessons 3 & 4 we'll draw our tiger eyes! This is the culmination of our practice; we'll emphasize the texture of the fur and creating realistic light and shadow.

Students who turn in all assignments will receive a certificate of completion.
I can't wait to see what you create!
Learning Goals
We will practice using artist-quality colored pencils to blend, shade, and create realistic textures and forms. Students will learn how to use color theory and build the layers of their drawing to create richer and more nuanced drawings.
