Class Experience

**This class is available to be scheduled at your request! Message with your preferred start date.
Flex class lessons are recorded and may be completed on the day(s) of your choosing.
***********************************
Interested in learning to sketch faces from different angles? Or different types and styles of hair? Learn how face proportions alter as the pose changes, practice drawing from observation, and using shading techniques to create more lifelike drawings through this course.

Students will engage in guided drawing lessons, learning to apply intermediate drawing techniques as they follow along with the teacher as she draws (in recorded demonstrations).

Opportunities for further practice will be provided each week, along with guided activities and discussion questions that allow students to share tips, tricks, techniques, and to connect with one another as classmates. Examples of extension activities include "scavenger hunts" for images that illustrate each lesson's objective, drawing challenges issued to fellow artists, and the opportunity to offer kind and helpful feedback to classmates.

***This is a FLEX class!*** Flex classes are "asynchronous," meaning that students will view guided lessons and follow the teacher as I draw, in recorded demonstrations. Students communicate with the teacher and one another through the classroom message board and Outschool messenger.

Students should post photos of their drawings in the class chat, or to send the images privately through messenger, to receive feedback from the teacher. Please post, so that I can give you helpful feedback, as well as affirmation for all the things you're doing really well!

Additional video recordings will be added each week to provide clarification on the use of drawing techniques, based on work submitted for feedback.

Here are the techniques that we'll practice together:
Week 1: Angled views of the face (profile & three-quarters view)
Week 2: Hair types & styles
Week 3: Using gesture & shading
Week 4: Embellishments-- freckles, wrinkles, glasses, piercings, and TEETH
Learning Goals
We will practice drawing proportionate human faces in a variety of angles, adding hair, other features, and shading. Our goal is to become more familiar with human face proportions, and more comfortable applying them to our drawings.

There will be no nudity, however some figures may be clothed in leotards, gym shorts, or similar. Please feel free to address concerns with me beforehand, and I will take your student's needs into consideration.

Figure drawing is my favorite art discipline! I have years of experience creating my own drawings and sculptures, using the human form as inspiration, and I always brought my enjoyment and expertise to my students when we created figurative artworks. I have taught figure drawing to elementary, junior high, and high school age students for over a decade, and look forward to meeting more young artists who want to learn this skill!
