Students will be introduced to the artist Wayne Thiebaud, through a slideshow of his work. We will discuss as a class what we see in his artwork and painting style. Next, students will create some art of their own inspired by Thiebaud's paintings. We will draw a cake and either an ice cream dish or an ice cream cone. Then, we will add a background and other details to make the artwork unique to each learner. If time permits we can draw any other treats the students may suggest such as donuts, cupcakes, snow cones, and lollipops. Although this class is largely done in a directed drawing, students are encouraged to add creativity to their art where they see fit. Please note that students may need time outside of class to finish coloring their artwork.

Teacher expertise and credentials
The two things I love most in life is art and teaching! I have a degree in art education and have lots of experience working with young students. I think that the basic understanding of art techniques and theories are important things that students should learn to not only further their art skills but also to see the beauty in the world around them!
