Class Experience

Students will learn in small group zoom meetings with Cara. Each day (Monday-Friday), students will work on a different project. Students may need to finish projects outside of class. Projects will change weekly, so check the schedule below to see what projects/weeks work for you! Also, any specific materials other than the general materials list will be listed under the schedule for the week. Classes are recorded, so if a student cannot attend a session they can always watch the video and catch up at a later time. Students are able to chat with each other during work time, after the step-by-step instructional period. Cara will provide conversation starters if needed.

*All drawings for this Summer Camp are NEW. None of my students have completed these exact drawings before.

***For all of these projects, students may want to use a variety of materials. Any painting, drawing, and collage materials will work! If students want to try to do some collage work too, they'll need scissors and glue in addition to collage paper. Sturdier paper is also best for these projects, consider watercolor or mixed-media paper. I will be using a mix of acrylic paint, paint markers, and collage.

Hello, my name is Cara!

I have been teaching art since 2003 in school and studio environments. I have a Bachelor of Arts in Art from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. My concentrations are in education and painting. I have experience teaching students as young as 3 up to adults. The majority of my in-school teaching experience was in grades 6-12. At my studio, I teach students weekly and also have classes for homeschool students, open studio, birthdays, graduations, and team-building. I love that online platforms allow teachers and students to connect across the world! What an amazing opportunity!

I love to create bright-colored abstract paintings, usually in acrylic or watercolor. I live with my husband and three dogs a short drive from my art studio! I look forward to meeting you!

**Class Policies:

*Please have learners log in 2-3 minutes before the scheduled class start time so that we can start on time.

*All class times are approximate. Class length may vary due to student ability and class size. Classes are designed to be no longer than the time allotted.

*Late/Missed Class Policy - All courses will begin on time as long as one learner is in the classroom. In the event that no students are in the classroom at the assigned class time, the teacher will leave a message on the discussion board and exit the classroom after 10 minutes. Class recordings are available upon request.

***Tardy Policy - Learners who have missed ten minutes or more of the class time should request a transfer. I will lock the meeting after ten minutes so that the students in class are not distracted by late students. Instruction is given step-by-step, so tardiness detracts from everyone's learning experience. I am happy to work with you to try to meet your scheduling needs and want each learner to have an optimal experience!

***I do not check or respond to messages while I am teaching classes. I will respond as soon as I can after class has ended.

*Certificates of completion are available upon request.

*Ongoing classes run from September through May. We will take a break for summer so that everyone can vacation and do summer camps.
