Do you want to draw realistic animals? Or maybe even cartoons or anime? Wondering what is "missing" from your drawings? This beginners' basic series will help young artists break animals into basic shapes.

These classes are available as "stand alone" or in this ongoing series. Each class will focus on using simple shapes like circles, ovals, rectangles, etc. combined with basic lines to draw animals. Students will draw along with me in pencil and then can complete the sketch with a black pen, marker, or colored pencils. We will draw a different animal each week.

I believe all people can feel successful with drawing. It's more confidence than skill! I like to model the techniques and then allow students to find their comfort level. Students are invited to share their drawings for specific feedback, but not required. No prior drawing knowledge needed. Just a desire to try!

Learning Goals

Students will learn to break complex forms into basic shapes. These guidelines will then help the artists add details, texture, and value (shading) to create a realistic animal drawing.

Hi! My name is Wendy Stanziano and I am a visual arts teacher at a charter school in Florida. I currently teach 4th through 8th grades, but I’ve also been a preschool teacher and a fourth grade classroom teacher for many years. In both my digital and actual art classrooms, I enjoy sharing stories and projects about art history with my students. We also have fun using digital and traditional art techniques. I graduated college with a BA in Studio Art with a concentration in painting. I sponsor afterschool art and media clubs for students of all ages. At home, we have two children, ages 12 and 16 who endure, I mean ENJOY, having school lessons all summer with Teacher Mom! We also love to travel and find fun and educational outings to museums, zoos, and science centers. I love encouraging students to become “fearless learners” who realize that the journey is far more important than the final destination. In the words of artist, Salvador Dali, “Have no fear of perfection - you'll never reach it.”

I really came to love my online lessons during digital learning. I cannot wait to meet your child in my Outschool classroom!
