Students will be taught how to draw Popeye the Sailor as well as other "Popeye" characters, and other classic cartoon characters!

Description

Class Experience

Students will learn:
 how to control their pencil lines (dark lines and light lines, for example)
How to find basic shapes that help build a character
How to draw a character over and over to be able to draw the character independently from instruction
Inking (tracing over important pencil lines with ink)

CLASS BREAKDOWN:
Class 1: Introductions and start drawing simple shapes to draw POPEYE THE SAILOR
Class 2: Draw Popeye in motion and how to draw characters moving (different positions, facial expressions, etc)
Class 3: Drawing Olive Oyl using simple shapes and facial features and body movement
Class 4: Draw Wimpy and Bluto/Brutus: Larger characters
Class 5: Draw Peanuts characters chosen by students 
Class 6: Finish Peanuts characters and add background (practice creating space in art and use the whole picture plane)
Class 7: Draw Scooby Doo to practice drawing animals
Class 8: Draw Garfield
Class 9: Draw Smurfs
Class 10: Draw different characters of different sizes to practice PROPORTION (Smurfs vs. normal person, for example)
*With each class, given time, students will be allowed to show their own artwork they've made in class and/or work they made on their own. 
Students will need Paper (drawing paper or even printer paper would suffice) Pencil Eraser Black pen and marker Something to color with (color pencils, crayons, markers, etc. Whatever is around the house)
1 hour 50 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
