Class Experience

Welcome to this "unique" class! I'm very excited to see what unique Pokeball will be created next!

Please note that Inkscape is a free software that will need to be installed prior to taking this class. Also, please ensure that the program runs properly. Although there are no specific system requirements to run Inkscape, please be mindful that system performance will differ from computer to computer.

I will be teaching while screen sharing Inkscape from my PC as I teach the fundamentals. Now and then we will share where everyone is at as to ensure that no one is left behind.

Students will learn the Inkscape fundamentals:
-Understanding what vector graphics is compared to raster graphics
-How to navigate the work area
-How to create objects: Circles, Squares, Polygons and Stars, Paths
-Understanding each objects' unique behavior tools
-How to manipulate Lines and Paths from their Nodes and Node Handles
-How to use the Align Objects tools

Students will then begin to create the most basic Pokeball under my guidance as to learn the fundamentals. We will go over and talk about everyone's favorite Pokeball and discuss each one and discover each part of its features. We will briefly go over lighting and shadowing (since this is anime based art, it's relatively more simplistic). Our end goal is for everyone to have at least a good start on their unique Pokeball. If they wish to continue their Pokeball for homework then they may! We will be sharing what everyone has before the end of class with one another. My goal is to have each student satisfied and pleased with their Pokeball when finished.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Daniel Carr and I am thrilled to be here in Outschool. I currently teach "Vector Art" with a free program called "Inkscape." I have over 7 years experience using programs for vector art, raster graphics, 2D animation, and game design / creation.

I believe that "Creativity" and "Imagination" is are key elements for nearly everything (ie: game design, inventions, movies, novels, theater, apps, art, and more). These elements will be the foundation for the way I teach, so I'll be incorporating creative aspects for each class. I believe that this will help others to have fun and enjoy it more in the hopes to give each student a "spark an interest" to learn more!

I have two young sons that I love to play with and help them explore the world. I have taught other kids for nearly 7 years, even in a different country. I’d love to help your learners find new tools to capture the world around them with my technological art classes.
