*PLEASE NOTE: the age range for this class is 8-12. In order to present an experience that is enjoyable for all learners, please do not enroll learners outside 8-12 years of age. Thank you for understanding* This isn’t just a drawing class; it’s a party. Teacher Amanda Gatton loves spooky things so much that in her world, every day is Halloween. If you are a creepy at heart person too, this is the right drawing lesson for you. In this 45 minute session, we will use the kawaii “cute” style...
1. Students will learn the basics of the kawaii art style and the pop surrealism style 2. Students will receive step by step instructions on drawing a unique version of favorite characters from pop culture 3. Students will learn about giving and receiving feedback
As a professional artist, I find great joy in exploring fun art styles. As a mom and teacher I have learned that kids in this age group tend to love Kawaii art across the board. Creating an illustration together with kids offers them the ability to make artistic choices and to keep their brains energized and engaged with the creating process.
Finish your art by coloring it using whatever medium you enjoy (ex. Crayons, colored pencil, paint, gel pen, digital, etc.), then post it back in our virtual classroom for me to see!
Teacher will provide printables of the drawing instructions for learners to take with them. During class, they will need a pencil with eraser, a black pen for outlining, such as a Sharpie marker, and blank pieces of paper. We will draw three characters, so they can draw them all on one sheet, or reserve separate paper for each.
The learner progress is assessed by teacher and peer feedback, and if they wish to have their artwork shared online, they can come and see how other people love their art
45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
