What's included

1 live meeting
55 mins in-class hours
Homework
No specific homework is assigned, but students are encouraged to try more designs.
Assessment
Throughout the class, I will have artists share their work with me to see their progress and ask questions as they arise. We will engage in respectful and relaxed conversation as we work.

Class Experience

After introductions, artists will be shown live, step-by-step, how to compose their first piece: a small design of lines and curves that gives the illusion of 3D coils or tubes.

Our second piece will be equally as impressive and although the process will be slightly different, they will both incorporate line, form, and shape, as well as the design principals of movement and rhythm. We will discuss these as they relate to the artists’ work. We will briefly discuss Op Art history and look a few examples of other ways to use Op Art in your composition through shared slides and/or a secondary camera view.

These designs can take some time and extra detail to fully complete. As such, artists may have to finalize their work after the class has ended. I will assess where everyone is several times to gauge the pace and adjust as time allows. I will provide many opportunities to view the designs and ask questions as they arise. The results are so much fun! Thank you!

Bachelor's Degree in Music or Theatre or Arts from UCLA
I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from UCLA and spent my first 10 years out of college working with professional designers and photographers in the publishing world. I was exposed to an eclectic variety of art media and styles. I have always been drawn to abstract and graphic art, so I have enjoyed incorporating it into my own portfolio, no matter the media I used. I love how these designs play tricks on your eyes. It has been fun to learn more about these and now share it with new artists!
