Class Experience

If your young learner likes to draw AND loves animals...this class is for them! In this one-time class, students will learn to draw ocean animals by using simple shapes. Each picture will be drawn step-by-step. This requires the students to follow directions using their visual and auditory skills.

The class will start with a greeting and ensuring that every student has the required materials. I will use a document camera to show how to draw the picture for that particular lesson. I will draw a portion of the picture and use descriptive words as I do so. For example: "for the crab, we will start with a large circle near the bottom of our page". The students will be able to see and hear the directions as they are said. I will then give the students time to complete that portion of the picture. We will work on identifying shapes and lines as we draw.

When the picture is complete, the class will spend the time coloring our pictures with either crayons or colored pencils. I will give the students options for colors and adding details. Art is a form that has to be given options...there's no right or wrong! The students can then add backgrounds or special details to their picture. Maybe their bear needs to wear a hat or a bow. Maybe the fish can swim in a fishtank...or maybe the ocean!

To complete the project, the students can use markers to outline their animal. This makes the picture look more complete! This is an optional portion of the class! Students are not required to use markers. If you allow your student to use markers, please, make sure that they are washable. Especially if they are working independently.

If the students need more time, they are welcome to complete or add to their project after our class time! Photographs of their artwork can be added to the classroom page! I would love to see all of the completed projects!

Let's get creative!

Welcome to my online classroom! Learning and meeting new people can be exciting and fun for some, but nerve-wrecking for others. This is why my classroom is a silly and relaxed place where it's ok to make mistakes and ask questions.

I have had 14 years of teaching experience in the school/home/online settings, working with students who are shy, outgoing, with special needs, ESL, and gifted. My main goal is to make sure that each student feels heard and appreciated during every class that I teach.
