In this fun and interactive course, students will learn about facial proportion and how to draw realistic facial features. As this is a self-paced class there are no live meetings but I provide an abundance of resources and support to help learners develop at their own pace. I am available and happy to answer your questions any time during the 4 weeks of class. I will check in with learners once a week and aim to respond to uploaded work in progress within 24 hours. Over four weeks, through specially recorded video demonstrations, I will teach learners how to draw a basic outline and gradually add the eyes, nose, mouth and ears. Also included are tips on shading and fun demonstrations explaining proportion. For the last two weeks, the course will include a range of different hairstyles and accessories so that learners can choose their favourite and create a truly original drawing. Of course they also have the option to draw several faces if they would like to really develop their skills! This course is suitable for both beginners and those with more experience because the choice within the lessons means that learners can opt for slightly easier or harder drawings. By the end of the course, they'll have increased their confidence and have artwork to be proud of! In addition to this, with every lesson I will also provide a downloadable resource on famous portraits. This will include suggested (optional) activities for extended learning opportunities (eg. recreating a famous portrait). These challenges are open-ended and designed to inspire all learners by demonstrating how we can be creative in different ways, so sharing the results to the classroom is highly encouraged! Please encourage your child to interact in the Classroom as much as possible for the most rewarding learning experience. The skills students will learn during this course will build confidence and technique and be applicable to all future drawings they undertake. At the end of our time together, I will provide a digital certificate of completion to print out and proudly display! They will be welcome to join my other self-paced classes or my live ongoing drawing class "Everything You Need to Know About Drawing" where we complete a different drawing each week. If you have any questions about this class please do not hesitate to message me!

Hi, I am a qualified art teacher originally from Ireland and now living in the UK. I am also a practising artist and have exhibited my paintings across the UK and Ireland. When I'm not teaching on Outschool, I also deliver art workshops for the University of Arts, London. In addition to 13 years experience teaching Art and Design to children aged from 4 to 17, I have also taught courses in life skills such as resilience and growth mindset, both online and in the classroom.
I am really passionate about helping children to develop or rediscover their creativity and maintain their confidence in art! So often children and young people lose their confidence in art and this can happen for a variety of reasons. I work with them to build their skills and change their mindset so that they can find joy in the process again.
My classes on Outschool teach key art concepts in fun and engaging ways. Different classes cover topics such as tone, colour and composition. My most popular classes are 'Everything You Need to Know About Drawing' and multi-day 'Build Art Skills and Confidence in Drawing' where I work with children who are very unconfident and benefit from a carefully designed plan, tailored to their needs. I am so pleased to have helped so many students like this rediscover their joy in making art. I really love it!
