In this class, we will walk through the step-by-step process of designing and drawing a mandala. This unique design has origins in ancient artistic traditions and creating a mandala can bring focus and confidence to the artist. As we draw together, we will explore concepts such as radial symmetry, patterns, and rhythm, and share our knowledge of geometric and organic shapes. Our mandalas will share certain elements that help students get started, but each student's mandala will rely on...
Students will understand the concept of radial symmetry and display their understanding through the creation of a mandala design.
• Paper • Pencil and eraser • Colored pencils or markers Optional but helpful: • Ruler • Compass (if you don't have a compass, sometimes it is helpful for students to trace circles using objects such as CDs, jar lids, bottle caps, etc. We will be making at least three different circles in our drawing, so if this would be helpful for your learner, please come prepared with three circular objects of different sizes no bigger than the paper).
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
