includedClass Experience
Intermediate - Advanced Level
Do you have a strong understanding of the basics of drawing? Are ready to enrich your concepts and bring your drawings to the next level? If so, then this class is for you! In this Flex class, learners will learn about and explore a different drawing technique each week enriching foundations of established concepts of drawing. Certified educator and artist, Amy Pollman will introduce a new concentration via video postings which will feature demos and examples from artists and art history in relation to the class. Students will then be given an art challenge to complete and upload for the following week. This is a fun and interactive way for learners to access class content and contribute to the class dynamic. We will cover a variety of drawing topics: value, texture, line, negative/positive space, perspective, rendering, composition, portraits, landscapes, animals, optical illusion, symmetry, scale, color concepts and art fundamentals are just to name a few. The topic for the following week will be announced a week prior to each class as well as a prompt to consider. This is an intermediate level course and experience and comfortability with basic drawing terms and skills is recommended. This class is a flex course which encourages student’s creativity in an introspective, convenient and interactive way. Students will not only post their artwork weekly but also have an opportunity to receive and give feedback from their peers and instructor about their work via commenting through the flipgrid portal. This allows the classroom to operate as an online rolling gallery exhibition. Individualized feedback will be provided with each artwork submitted. This course will follow the following format: Week 1: Understanding contour: line quality, descriptive line and drawing with the ‘right side of the brain’ Week 2: Finding the positive in negative space! How can seeing ‘the shapes between subjects’ help create more effective final products? Week 3: Considering value: how do we create an effective illusion of space utilizing all the values of the value scale (including the white of your paper?) How can you create value with different mark making styles? Week 4: Drawing in perspective: Let’s experiment with a little perspective drawing and combine the skills we have discussed so far creating an ‘enchanted environment’. Time Commitment: No live meetings, and an estimated 1 -2 hours per week outside of the class My teaching style is informed yet approachable. I believe in nurturing a learner's creativity while building their understanding of the fundamentals and history of art.
