Average rating:5.0Number of reviews:(48)
This ongoing class will meet weekly and start with a short retelling of a folktale or fable, then will continue with a drawing lesson with a scene from the story.
Class Experience
Each session will begin with a story such as a fable from Aesop, a traditional fairy tale or a folk tale from around the world. After hearing the story there will be a short discussion about the images from the story. The students will learn how to turn a mental image from the story into a visual drawing using crayons and a shading drawing technique. Along the way they will learn art terms such as foreground and background and develop a drawing style that is the basis for more advanced work....
Students will develop their drawing skills and confidence in using them.
In all of my teaching for the last 25 years, I have incorporated some form of drawing into the classes, whether I'm teaching math, science, history, geography or English. I have found drawing not only develops hand-eye coordination, but also observational skills. The ability to bring a mental image down onto paper helps students retain information as well as create a piece of art they can be proud of.
