Each week, we will focus on drawing a different dessert together and add a new shading skill to our repertoire: ○ Week 1: Doughnut – Tonal Shading ○ Week 2: Soft-Serve Ice Cream – Hatching ○ Week 3: Slice of Cake – Scumbling ○ Week 4: Pie – Cross-Hatching ○ Week 5: Popsicle/Ice Cream Bar – Stippling ○ Each lesson will consist of step-by-step instructions for things like general outline and technique, but will also be driven by learner-directed decisions for things like colors, flavors, toppings, etc., making their own creation unique to their taste and expansive creativity. ○ As we draw together, students will get tips on how to make their forms look more three-dimensional as we add different values and textures, and think about how light and shadow can enhance the form. ○ The teacher will model how adding contrast and emphasis to the image, and creating unity, can make their picture more visually interesting. All of these concepts will be broken down to be accessible for this age group. ○ Students will learn different color-mixing and blending techniques as they work in colored pencil, and will be able to experiment as they make these discoveries! ○ Students will practice and build on their knowledge of different shading techniques each day including tonal shading, hatching, scumbling, cross-hatching, and stippling. ○ Students will have the opportunity to get to know the other students and the teacher throughout the course, and to feel comfortable sharing their creative ideas to inspire and collaborate! They will be amazed with the beautiful work they can create just by learning a few new skills! *Students are expected to arrive on time to each lesson so that we can cover everything outlined here.
